Prof Joshi has been faculty with the School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering since Nov 2000. He was awarded Ph. D. degree for his work in Composites Processing by Monash University, Australia in 1999. Prior to that, from 1998 to 1994, he worked as Scientist at the National Aerospace Laboratories upon completion of his M. Tech. in Aeronautical Engineering from Indian Institute of Bombay (Mumbai). At NTU, Prof Joshi was an integral part of the Singapore’s first microsatellite R&D project, XSAT, which was successfully launched in 2011. He has been PI or co-PI of several R&D projects funded by ASTAR, RSAF, DSTA as well as industries such as ARKEMA, France.

    Aerogel-filled sandwich composites for thermal radiation and acoustic barrier applications
    Distinctive, light-weight, flat and curved sandwich composites were conceptualized and developed using glass fibre reinforced BMI and Phenolic prepregs with Silica aerogel as core fillers. The product is proven to offer excellent heat insulation and good acoustic barrier properties.

    Enhancements of passive thermal management of critical units in small satellites
    To enhance power-less thermal management on-board small satellites, this project explored use of hear pipes and special surface features to manipulate heat transfer, absorption and dissipation.

    TPTP applied to Structural Sports Products in Mass Production
    Thin C-plies and a special ARKEMA thermoplastic are used to develop a composite that can offer good fracture toughness, stiffness, shear properties and vibration damping. VARI and light RTM processes are adopted to establish a sports product application.
