​MAE PhD Alumnus shines among Innovators Under 35 in Asia

​Dr Ajay Prakash Kottapalli has been chosen as one of the 10 outstanding innovators in Asia.

Innovators Under 35 is an annual list that recognizes outstanding innovators who are younger than 35. The awards span a wide range of fields, including biotechnology, materials, computer hardware, energy, transportation, communications, and the Internet. Innovators Under 35 identifies individuals whose superb technical work promises to shape the coming decades. Its goal is to recognize the development of new technology or the creative application of existing technologies to solve the world’s biggest problems.

With his innovation of nature-inspired miniaturized sensors that create new standard of care in biomedical flow sensing, Dr Ajay Prakash Kottapalli becomes a candidate and potential finalist for the global Innovators Under 35 list celebrated in the fall of 2018 in Boston.

In 2013, Dr Ajay Prakash Kottapalli received his Ph.D from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, along with a Singapore-MIT Alliance Graduate fellowship. Between 2014-2016, he was a Postdoctoral Associate and as Research Scientist at SMART. In 2013, 2015 and 2017, Dr Ajay Prakash Kottapalli was a visiting scholar at MIT. He is currently a Project Investigator (PI) for research projects funded by the SMART Innovation Center and the CENSAM Research Initiative. His research focuses on nature-inspired sensor technologies, biomimetic materials, MEMS/NEMS, nanotechnology, biomedical devices etc. In 2016, Dr Ajay Prakash Kottapalli founded a startup company called Sensornomics Pte Ltd which envisions to create new standards of care in biomedical devices. He is a young entrepreneur who leads a team of 4 researchers. He has published about 45 peer-reviewed papers, authored 1 book and held patents in sensor technology.
